The Guy Fawkes Night (also called Bonfire Night or Firework Night) celebrates the anniversary of the discovery of a plot organized by Catholic conspirators (Guy Fawkes was one of them) to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London on 5th November1605. Although it is not a public holiday, people usually celebrate it by gathering in the evening to light bonfires and firework displays are being organised.
I went up to Calton Hill with some friends to watch the fireworks and it was spectacular. Fortunately it wasn’t too cold so we had a good time enjoying the view over the city where the sky lit up every few seconds in different places. It truly felt like New Year’s Eve, just the countdown was missing! Great experience! ????????????
