1.) Learn about Europe
As I visited the Louvre, the Chateau Versailles, the City of Paris with the Arc de Triomphe I was always wondering "Why?". But it was not only me, also my friends from Austria didn't knew all the stories behind. So, I started reading a lot about French history, which btw helped me a lot as I attend 2 history classes at University, and recognized a lot what we have learnt in High School!
2.) Learn another language
You are confronted with patriotic Frenchmen so there is no other way than speaking French. In the beginning it was hard to cope with, but after a few examinations in French and after preparing for a presentation in Fiscal Law I feel that it get’s better from day to day.
3.) Encourage others to do so
I was pleased to welcome 5 friends of mine who visited me in Paris and were eager to learn something about the city and the great great history that spread all over Europe, like one can see when discovering Versailles – how that influenced the Viennese king to build Schönbrunn. I love that it brings people together and to go abroad, that is how Europe shall merge and get to know each other better. Maybe one day the majority of my generation considers themselves rather as Europeans than as only citizen of their homeland.
4.) Build international friendships
There is no better way as to meet and get to love people from abroad when you are abroad! I am happy to say that I got some invitations from students all over Europe and I am really looking forward to traveling to countries and cities I haven’t been before.
5.) Think international
I am constantly growing in my mind, thinking more about an international career than ever before. Invisible doors have opened, I started looking on international job recruiting websites, began searching on websites of Universities which LL.M. programs they offer. I have never imagined the spirit you get on ERASMUS ????
