Last weekend I did get up to some sightseeing, as I mentioned in my previous post - what I did not get up to however, was writing it all up. On Saturday I went to the Opera de Lyon with a friend and we got so-called "places debout" (Stehplätze), which are just 5€! If seats are free, you might be given one of these (we got one instantly but were quite lucky) and we had a great view! The opera itself was called Mefistopheles, a late 19th-century piece after Goethe's Faust. I really enjoyed the staging, even though it was a bit scary and off-putting first. Reading the commentary definitely helped!
On Sunday I was off to a semi-early start to Perouges, a quaint little village about 30 minutes by train from Part-Dieu, the central train station in Lyon. On the picture you can see the main square with a restaurant/café under arches. After arriving at the train station, I walked about 15 minutes to the village itself, which is situated on top of a hill and thus presents quite a steep ascent (I wouldn't call it climb). All the streets are set with stones, so don't take a scooter or skateboard. On top of enjoying the atmosphere and last days of summer, I tried to go to a history (?) museum and tower - they weren't able to take my card or point me to an ATM, and I'm not so sure if the 5€ fee would have been worth the view from the top of the tower and a small museum anyway, so I didn't go. The rest of the village was great though! I bought a galette de Perouges (and the obligatory fridge magnet) - this is a kind of flat dough out of sugar, butter and flour (and some other ingredients probably?) which tastes really sweet but was nice to try anyway. In total, I only stayed about 1,5 hours before going back to Lyon to enjoy a rather unproductive afternoon.
Last week, I had a lot of studying to do before leaving for Vienna Thursday evening. Since they do not take roll at the tutorials and even less so at the lectures (thank god) I only had to inform one of my tutorial professors of my absence (He even gave me next weeks exercise to do at home, which I found really considerate!). This weekend, I visited some friends and of course my family and went back to Leoben for a singing course and concert, which went really well. On my way back, the flight got delayed, so I only arrived in Lyon around 9. The temperature here is falling rapidly too, as of today it's a hot 12 degrees in the afternoon! I'm really glad that I took my boots with me from Vienna and deposited all my summer clothes back there, as I obviously won't need them here. Next week are already the "conges", which is a free week for Toussaint (Allerheiligen, in english literally all-holies (that does not work at all), but I think you know what I mean). My parents and a friend from Austria will be coming to visit, so I'm really looking forward all the sightseeing, even though it's probably going to be very chilly.
